Experimental Results of Starting a Three-Stage Synchronous Generator Using a Reactive Torque

In creating a more electric aircraft, developers are increasingly applying the multi-purpose use of devices used on board the aircraft. This article considers the use of an aircraft three-stage synchronous generator as a starting device for a gas turbine engine. A number of launching devices used on board the aircraft are considered, for the analysis of launching devices and the formation of requirements for the developed electric launching devices. The problems associated with the use of a three-stage generator are analyzed, and ways to solve them are proposed. The article presents a method for generating the starting torque using the reactive component of a synchronous generator. The article contains the results of a physical experiment of the start-up system operation, the model is represented by a three-phase voltage inverter with a microprocessor control system operating on a three-stage synchronous generator.
